Everyone’s Glory, paintings by Maurice Franco (Film by QWUX)
Friday, November 12 at 6:00pm – November 28 at 6:00pm
Monstrosity Gallery, 93 Bourke St, Woolloomooloo
After a life devoted to spiritual endeavour, Sydney born Maurice Franco has, for the last two and half years, been earning a living painting and selling large canvases on King Street Newtown — under the iconic mural of Martin Luther King inscribed with the words “I have a Dream”. Using an unusual watercolour technique on canvas which produces flame-like rhythms of expansion, he paints unbridled orgasmic joy, effusions of love and light, in the form of exploding stars, galaxies and dissolving landscapes. Having been told all his life he is “too much”, his paintings are resolutely full of absolute positivity — validated by the profound spiritual experiences and understanding he has gained through years of various intense transformative practices.
Monstrosity now presents an exhibition of Franco’s outstanding paintings from the last few years. These works represent an arguably revolutionary new style of painting — facilitating the rhythms of the cosmos via water rather than traditionally Euclidian approaches to visual construction.
